Early Beginnings and Mentorship:
Boas Opedun was born in Soroti, Eastern Uganda. He embarked on a journey that would take him far beyond the borders of his hometown. His path from a curious photography assistant to a passionate photographer and documentary filmmaker is a testament to the power of perseverance, and the desire to make a difference through the art of visual media.
Boas’s journey into the world of photography and videography began under the mentorship of Jake Lyell, a professional in the field. This pivotal experience laid the foundation for Boas’s deep understanding of visual storytelling, equipping him with skills in still photography, video production, and drone operation. His early exposure to diverse projects across various media forms ignited a lifelong passion for capturing moments that tell stories and inspire action.
Education and specialisation: to refine his craft and expand his expertise, Boas pursued formal education in advanced compositing and special effects for film at Proline Film Academy in Kampala, Uganda. He furthered his education by enrolling in an online course to study small Unmanned Aircraft Systems, becoming a certified commercial remote pilot at Pilot Institute. These educational pursuits enabled Boas to blend technical proficiency with creative vision.
A global Storyteller: Having traveled to over 15 countries, including Zambia, The Republic of Georgia, Nepal, and several nations in West Africa, Boas has documented a wide array of cultures and stories. Each project, whether it’s capturing the daily life in Mindanao in the Philippines, or documenting development projects in Niger, is approached with a deep sense of respect, curiosity, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity. Boas’s global experiences have shaped him into a versatile and empathetic storyteller, capable of navigating different social-economic backgrounds and cultural contexts.
Driving change through visual media
