A traditional list of immediate basic needs includes food, access to safe water, shelter, education, healthcare, and clothing. Communities in Uganda have applied the basic needs principle to address food insecurity locally and nationally; however, even with programs that provide funding for food and shelter—particularly during harsh conditions like dry seasons—there remains a greater need.
